About

Established in 2006. Trillium Natural Medicine was initially opened outside of Portland, Oregon before Dr. Maureen Tighe decided to return to her home town to practice. Being that there are only a few Naturopathic doctors practicing in Pittsburgh, it was gratifying for Dr. Tighe to offer her expertise locally where she was raised to give back to the community.

Trillium Natural Medicine is an integrative medical practice that combines ancient and modern healing modalities based on the wisdom of Classical Chinese and Naturopathic Medicine. The practice addresses physical, mental, and emotional balance through individualized treatments, including medicinal foods, nutritional support, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, functional medicine lab testing, and mind-body approaches.
Trillium Natural Medicine recognizes that health exists on various levels, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Their approach considers each patient's unique needs and aims to guide them toward a lifestyle that nourishes their entire being.
Genuine healing is achieved through a multi-pronged approach tailored to individual needs, rather than simply medicating symptoms. This approach, guided by licensed Naturopathic doctors, establishes a balance between physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, encouraging patients to actively participate in their well-being journey.
Naturopathic Medicine is rooted in the recognition of inherent wisdom in nature and the human body. Unlike symptom-focused approaches, Naturopathic physicians seek to uncover underlying factors that contribute to signs and symptoms, aiming to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself. The approach values all aspects of well-being and emphasizes individualized treatments.
Naturopathic Medicine takes a holistic approach, looking beyond symptoms to identify root causes. Rather than erasing symptoms, it addresses underlying factors. This philosophy encourages patients to actively participate in their well-being, aligning with their doctor's guidance.
Naturopathic physicians are trained as primary care physicians in certain states and regions. Their training involves 2 years of basic science training, science board exams, and 2 additional years of clinical science training with clinical science board exams. Graduates meet strict clinical standards for practicing Naturopathic medicine and diagnose illnesses through history, physical exams, and laboratory tests. Treatments include gentle therapies, physical medicine, herbs, nutrition, acupuncture, and counseling.
A consultation with a licensed Naturopathic doctor involves assessing all aspects of well-being, considering the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual components of health. The doctor guides patients in individualizing their treatment, fostering a balanced and lasting approach to well-being.
Naturopathic Medicine employs various therapies, including physical medicine, both Western and Chinese herbs, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, minor surgery, and counseling. These therapies are gentle and aim to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities.
Yes, Naturopathic Medicine can complement conventional medical care. Integrating these approaches can offer a well-rounded approach to health and well-being. Always consult your healthcare provider when considering integrative care.

Dr Tighe is wonderful! I went for an initial fertility consult and it align with the recommendations was well worth the investment. Her knowledge in this subject is extensive and her confidence in the process really rubs off. I’ve been going weekly for acupuncture and notice the effects right away. Ive been to one other acupuncturist and didn’t really feel anything. I highly recommend Dr. Tighe!
